Week 12 Storyline : Dallas Cowboys vs New York Giants

ARLINGTON, TX – The Dallas Cowboys (7-3) will host the New York Giants (7-3) on Thanksgiving Day in AT&T Stadium. This will be the second time these two teams have played each other this season.

The Cowboys beat the Giants 23-16 earlier this year and they are the favorite in Thursday afternoons match up. Don’t forget, the last time these two teams played QB Dak Prescott was injured and Dallas’s go-to man was Cooper Rush. Rush led the Cowboys to a victory and this go around Prescott will have his opportunity to sweep New York.

The Giants and the Cowboys are both coming into this game at 7-3 and if the Cowboys can sweep them this season they will hold the tiebreaker for any playoff positioning.

Yes, both teams have the same record but Dallas is coming off a solid win to a great Vikings team while the Giants are coming off a bad loss to Detroit at home.

The Cowboys are coming off an impressive 40-3 win over the Vikings this past Sunday in Minnesota. Dallas’s emphasis all week leading up to that game was fixing the run defense. Throughout the season opponents have been getting ahead with the run game and the Cowboys struggled defending the yards that were gained on the ground. Looks like they fixed that problem against the Vikings, giving up only 73 total yards rushing to Minnesota.

The defense didn’t stop there, the Cowboys pass rush gave Kirk Cousins a run for his money and the rush racked up seven sacks on the day. Minnesota’s offensive line could not hold Micah Parsons and Dorence Armstrong, both having two sacks on the day.

Dak Prescott and Tony Pollard were in sync on Sunday racking up 40 points with the help of Ezekiel Elliott. Prescott was almost perfect, throwing 22-of-25 for 276 total yards for two touchdowns.

“We are all about complimentary football.” Head Coach Mike McCarthy stated on Tuesday morning.

The Giants defense had a rough go against the Lions giving up 165 yards of run offense and Daniel Jones threw two interceptions. New York couldn’t handle Lions RB Jamaal Williams, giving up three touchdowns.

The Lions defense held their own against Saquon Barkley, Barkley went scoreless the entire game and held him to 15 carries for 22 total yards.

The Cowboys offense looks ten folds more improved than when they played New York back in September. The last time these two teams played each other was week three and Dallas looks like a totally different team. Their offense is starting to find rhythm and chemistry, and their pass rush gives teams a very hard time to get the ball distributed.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy states over and over in press conferences that they are about complimentary football and the players have stated they are aware the offense helps the defense just as much as the defense helps the offense. Both sides are aware of their roles and it looks like it’s coming together for Dallas.

When asked about any future Super Bowl conversations McCarthy said, “If we aren’t talking about the Giants we are wasting our time.”

McCarthy wants no conversation about any future games. The Cowboys are focusing this week on the Giants and the Giants only. McCarthy is 0-3 on Thanksgiving Day since being the Cowboys head coach.

Kick will be at 3:30 PM CST.
