JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Dallas Cowboys (10-4) lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars (6-8) in OT in Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon. A pick-six in overtime sealed the deal for Dallas after losing a 14-point lead to Jacksonville in the second half.
Winning this game would’ve clinched a playoff spot for Dallas, but instead now puts the team in a difficult place coming up on the Christmas Eve game in Dallas against the Philadelphia Eagles. In order to get a playoff spot now the Washington Commanders have to lose to the New York Giants this upcoming Sunday.
“You got to have a short one. We’ve got a short week and obviously have a very good football team coming in here. So we talked about it after the game, watch tape on the flight and get your mind on to Philly.” Cowboys All-Pro right guard Zack Martin told us after the game.
The Cowboys also have almost no chances in winning the NFC East anymore since that would mean the 13-1 Eagles would have to lose their last three games of the season.
“I’m disappointed, but in the same breath we’ve got a crazy schedule here. Not crazy, but different we’re dealing with. We’ll take a look at it here on the buses and plane, and when we touch down, we’ve got to turn the page.” Coach Mike McCarthy said after the game.
The biggest thing everyone is focusing on right now is the two interceptions that QB Dak Prescott threw in today’s game. Which included a pick-six that ended the game for the Cowboys. Prescott has 11 interceptions in his nine starts this season, eight of them being in the last six games.
“I take every loss on the chin,” Prescott said. “I think that’s my job as the quarterback to put us in positions to win and eliminate the mistakes and the potential chances to allow them to score after turnovers. That’s what’s frustrating about it. Whether it’s a tipped ball, whether it’s an unfortunate interception, whatever it is, they all suck. And at the end of the day, I got to do a better job, and that’s where it is.”
Prescott wasn’t the one and only issue that contributed to the Cowboy’s loss. The defense gave up a season high 34 points and only collected one sack on the day. They also took a huge blow after their leading tackle, Leighton Vander Esch, left during the first quarter to a neck injury.
“I’m not going to sit here and make excuses. I just say we got to get better,” linebacker Micah Parsons said. “No-excuse mentality. We got to fix up our eff ups and just go from there.”
Dallas has a short week. They will head back to Dallas for this week’s game against the Eagles on Saturday, December 24th. Tip off is at 3:25 PM CST.
