FORT WORTH, TX- The TCU Horned Frogs had a close game out in Lubbock on Saturday facing the Red Raiders.
The Frogs dominated in the first half putting 44-points with a 9-point lead over Tech going into the half 44-35.
The second half didn’t look much different. Although TCU allowed Tech to score 8 more points, 39-47 in the second half, TCU secured the win in the last 4 seconds when Jakobe Coles went to the line and made two 83-82.
Today Coach Dixon’s team will face the Texas Longhorns for the second time this season.
The last time these two matched up TCU led the 1st half with 13 points but fell behind in the 2nd half unable to pull away. The teams were tied with 3:50 remaining 69-69 when Mike Miles fouled Texas Timmy Allen. This allowed him to score 2 free throws closing the game 79-75.
Texas is coming off a close match up against the Baylor Bears 81-72. Dylan Disu led the Longhorns with 24 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Baylor’s defense was what ultimately got Texas down the stretch as well as 3-point shooting. Texas was kept to only 37% from the three.
Monday before practice Head Coach Jamie Dixon acknowledged TCU’s terrific offense against Tech but said adjustments need to be made and applied quickly on defense.
“Defense has got to be better,” said Dixon. “I think we took a step backwards in that area.”
The Frogs will host Texas for their last regular season home game tonight in the Schollmaier Arena. Tip off is at 8 p.m.
