Latest Dallas Cowboys Free Agency Updates

FRISCO, TX – The Dallas Cowboys have now entered week two of free agency and here are the latest moves the Dallas front office has done:

On Sunday the Cowboys traded for the Houston Texans WR Brandin Cooks. Most of the offense last season went through CeeDee Lamb with Michael Gallup still taking some time to return back from a torn ACL from the season before. The Cowboys needed to grab another WR to help out Lamb especially after losing Noah Brown to the Houston Texans last week.

Cooks has been traded four times and when asked about that after the trade to the Cowboys he said, “I don’t know. You ask my teammates or (previous) coaches, I would think they’d say I’ve been one of the best teammates they’ve had. There’s a reason why former teams have tried to come back and trade for me. So, I don’t know.”

Cooks said Dak Prescott reached out to him as soon as he heard about the trade,  “He was excited. He said he can’t wait to get to work. He said he has a lot of respect for my game. He said he’s looking forward to having me as part of the group.” Cooks said.

The Cowboys are signing RB Ronald Jones. The two-time Super Bowl champion was a second-round pick in 2018. Dallas’ current RBs are Tony Pollard, Malik Davis, Rico Dowdle and Jones. They are still expected to draft a RB next month. This was an area of struggle this season for Dallas and with the cut of Ezekiel Elliott they needed to grab another powerhouse that can move yards on the ground.

The Cowboys also lost TE Dalton Schultz, he has been picked up by the Houston Texans. He played under the franchise tag last year for the Cowboys. Schultz signed a one-year $9 million deal with the Texans. According to ESPN Schultz will be the new starting TE in Houston.

The Cowboys are re-signing DE Dante Fowler on a one-year deal. He had six sacks, nine QB hits, and seven tackles for loss in a reserve role last season.

The Cowboys have signed G/OT Chuma Edoga. He was a third round pick in 2019. He has played in 26 games, starting 13 over the last 4 years with the Jets and Falcons.

The Cowboys have re-signed RB Rico Dowdle. Dowdle has been battling injuries the last two years but Dallas still thinks he can be of use in the 2023 season. Dowdle was an undrafted free agent in 2020 and was the third string RB behind Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard. With Elliott off the table he could be of use here in Dallas this upcoming season.
