WASHINGTON, DC — The Arlington Renegades suffered a crucial loss in overtime to the D.C. Defenders, 28-26. The overtime win gave D.C. their eighth win of the season and secured them the top seed in the XFL North with one week remaining in the regular season. Leading by 17 points in the second half, it may have seemed to the Defender fans that their team had a for sure win secured.
But the Renegades didn’t go away without a fight, as they forced overtime behind two interceptions by Joe Powell and Colin Schooler. Both of these resulted in a one yard rushing touchdowns from De’Veon Smith. With all the ups and downs this game showed, a loss is a loss, and this game was huge for the Renegades to try and secure a spot in the play offs but unfortunately this loss raises big questions for the rest of the Renegades season.
Jordan Ta’amu led the Defenders with 188 passing yards and threw for two touchdowns. While wide receiver Josh Hammond ran for 74 yards and one touchdown.
Renegades Quarterback Luis Perez had the game of his life with a season high of 335 passing yards on 31 completed passes.
So, what’s next for Arlington? The Renegades will be fighting for their playoff spot, which may seem like the fight of their life next week on April 23rd against the Houston Roughnecks. Arlington will have home field advantage, so hopefully that will create a better momentum for the team. As for the Defenders, this win makes them the top seed in the XFL North, meaning they’ll get to host the divisional championship two weeks from now.
