ARLINGTON, TEXAS — Maddy Siegrist is taking on the challenge of becoming a WNBA superstar. She showed intensity and grittiness at Villanova and wants to make that translate onto the Dallas Wings court.
Siegrist was the third overall pick in the WNBA draft and hasn’t had to adjust to a new team since her freshman year, five years ago, but said that veterans such as Arike Ogunbowale and Diamond DeShields have welcomed the rookies in with open arms.
“They’ve been so helpful with the rookies,” said Siegrist. “Explaining what to do, where to go. I think playing with such great players around you makes your job a lot easier. They’re gonna double Arike or Natasha and they’re showing so much help there so you might be able to get an easier look.”

As she transitions into the league she’s shocked not only herself but staff at training camp. Head Coach Latricia Trammel said Monday that Siegrist has been consistent at making corner shots, but that wasn’t always the case for her at Villanova.
“You work really hard in the off-season to get here and to be put in that position,” said Siegrist. “You try to knock down as many shots as you can whether that’s ten shots or twenty shots. You want to be efficient.”
