FRISCO, TX – The Dallas Cowboys mandatory minicamp started on Tuesday morning at The Star in Frisco. We saw some changes to the offense and saw some defensive players that we did not see during OTA’s.
Offensively, the O-line saw a change after Tyron Smith moved to left tackle and Tyler Smith moved to left guard. We spoke with head coach Mike McCarthy in the press conference before minicamp started and he said those two players would be changing positions for the week.
“It’s like riding a bike. I want to get comfortable at both positions and I don’t mind playing either one.” Tyler Smith told us after minicamp concluded for the day.
Another topic of discussion was at the tight end position. With Dalton Schultz out and Jake Ferguson in, the Cowboys also have rookie Peyton Hendershot and Luke Schoomaker. The entire TE room is from the Big Ten and all of them are very young and very fresh to the NFL.
McCarthy told us this morning that the goal for the TE’s right now during this off season is hitting the weight room and getting bigger. He said all of them have done a great job of that so far and he has seen them put lots of time into the gym.
Defensively, we saw Trevon Diggs at minicamp today. He did not participate in optional OTA’s so this was the first we got to see him since last season.
Veteran DT Johnathan Hankins wasn’t seen at OTA’s either, but he was there for the first day of minicamp. Played in a goal-line package with first round pick Mazi Smith and Quinton Bohanna.
Minicamp will resume for the next two days at The Star in Frisco.
