One Week, Two Games and The Dallas Wings Start With Home Win

ARLINGTON, TEXAS — It was an exciting game at College Park Center. The Dallas Wings went head-to-head with the Phoenix Mercury taking them down 84-79.

Satou Sabally led the Wings to a victory with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

The Phoenix Mercury came out aggressive during the first half on both sides of the ball and led 18-26 in the first quarter.

The Dallas Wings picked up the pace down the court but were missing 3-pointers that Phoenix knocked down. Phoenix went 45.5% and Dallas 30.8% from the three, but the Wings were able to combat the point deficit with the help from Kalani Brown and Maddy Siegrist.

Making an impact off the bench rookie Maddy Siegrist made her name known on the court finishing with 14 points and 4 rebounds. Kalani Brown was efficient under the glass with 17 points and 15 boards.

Head Coach Latricia Trammell said that if she had a microphone she would drop it for Maddy Siegrist because of how incredible she was out on the court.

“She is one that will continue to work even thought at times her minutes are limited,” said Coach Trammell. “Maddy will continue to keep her value up and continue to keep fighting for this team. I was very impressed with her like I was since day one.”

A knocked down jump shot from Diana Taurasi would put the Phoenix Mercury over the Dallas Wings going into the locker room 48-44.

The second half did not look much different until the fourth quarter when Dallas guard Arike Ogunbowale tied the game 77-77 in the last two minutes with a driving layup. Kalani Brown was then able to close out the win with two good free throws.

Coach Trammell said that Arike is their finisher and she should take it as a compliment that Phoenix had to look for other ways to guard her.

“She is our franchise player and to give us that cushion when she was driving into the rim,” said Coach Trammell. ” They are starting to defend her a little more aggressive.”

UP NEXT- The Dallas Wings will take home court yet again with the Phoenix Mercury Friday in a sold out arena. Tip-off is at 7 PM.
