SMU Football Head Coach Rhett Lashlee Likes The Make Up Of His Team

DALLAS, TEXAS — The Mustangs are gearing up for the second season under head coach Rhett Lashlee’s. SMU finished 7-6 in the 2022-2023 season, and appeared in the New Mexico Bowl against BYU. SMU opens the 2023 college football season at home against Louisiana Tech at 11 a.m. CT on Sept. 2. The Mustangs are looking to continue the momentum they’ve built the last few seasons.

On Saturday SMU held an open scrimmage to media and former SMU football alumni to watch their practice. Head Coach Rhett Lashlee spoke with the media stating, “offense is looking great! But, we are still not game day ready. I’m really looking forward to seeing what these guys do and how they progress over the next three weeks come September 2nd.” Lashlee also said, “I like our team. I like the makeup of our team. I like the talent on our team. Adversity’s going to come with injuries and all kinds of other things. We’ll have to overcome that just like everybody else does.”

Speaking of adversity and overcoming injuries, cornerback Jahari Rogers says the defense overcoming their adversity and the change he has seen from spring ball to now is day and night. Rogers, ”the D-line are monsters now. They were so underrated and they took all the comments from last season and really listened to our coaches, put in the hard, extra work and really stepped it up.”
