NFL Week 2 : Dallas Cowboys vs New York Jets Preview

ARLINGTON, TX – The Dallas Cowboys (1-0) are taking on the New York Jets (1-0) in week two in their home opener on Sunday afternoon in AT&T Stadium. This is going to be a game about defense and let the best defense win.

In week one the Cowboys recorded seven sacks, which led the NFL, and generated pressure on 62 percent fo the dropbacks which is fourth highest in a game since 2019. Jets O-line is going to have their hands full with that Cowboys pass rush led by LB Micah Parsons.

The Cowboys secondary is also one to be recognized with Trevon Diggs and Stephon Gilmore. Both had great first games with Diggs forcing multiple fumbles and an interception made my Gilmore.

On the other side of the ball New York’s defense came to play on Monday night sacking QB Josh Allen five times and forcing three interceptions. The Jets secondary is not anything to take lightly and they are led by cornerback Sauce Gardner.

“His height. His height off rip is a disadvantage to the wide receivers under 6 ft or even at 6 ft. He does a great job and he performs well.” WR CeeDee Lamb talks about Garnders ability to guard players and the fact that his height is such a key component in his success.

The D-line that the Jets have is one that QB Dak Prescott will definitely have to look out for. In last weeks game Prescott barely even got touched and left the field with a clean white jersey after a 40-0 blowout win. This week could be a different story. Dallas’s O-line will have a tough time handling them especially with all the injuries and limited practices the Cowboys have had on the O-line during practice this week.

G Zack Martin was limited on Thursday with a groin issue. LG Tyler Smith did not practice again and spent most of his day with the rehab group with that hamstring issue. LT Tyron Smith was limited earlier this week with an ankle issue but he was back at it with full participation on Thursday.

Offensively, the Jets are without starting QB Aaron Rodgers with a torn achilles. He is out for the season and with the new switch at QB, Zach Wilson will be taking over for New York for the remainder of the year.

Prescott will have to look out for NY’s secondary led by Sauce Gardner. Head Coach Mike McCarthy said Gardner plays with a lot of instincts and he’s good at what he does.

Prescott’s go to guy is WR CeeDee Lamb, if they can’t find rythm RB Tony Pollard is ready and willing to take it to the house. Pollard had two touchdowns in week one and we got to ask him earlier this week about the Jets defense and he said, “The Jets have a great defense but so do we and I practice against them everyday.”

The Jets have a powerhouse behind Wilson with two great backs, Dalvin Cook and Breece Hall. The Cowboys struggled last year to defend the run and this will be a good opportunity to show the improvement during the off season that they have made in that category with the help of their first round draft pick Mazi Smith.

These two teams will go head to head on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 PM.
