Breaking : Cowboys Trevon Diggs Out for the Season with Torn ACL

FRISCO, TX – Dallas Cowboys Cornerback Trevon Diggs went down in practice on Thursday with a knee injury. Media members were unsure of the severity of the injury but did see Diggs on crutches passing by the locker room. An hour later it was confirmed by an MRI that Diggs did in fact tear his ACL during practice.

The Dallas Cowboys are officially without their two-time Pro Bowler for the rest of the season.

This is a huge blow to an unbelievable defense that the Cowboys have shown in the first two games of the season. With the gut wrenching news about Diggs, the positive to this is that Dallas has a lot of depth on defense at every position.

The Cowboys have great depth at cornerback with Stephon Gilmore, Jourdan Lewis, and DaRond Bland. They also have Israel Mukuamu who goes back and forth from corner to safety.

Let’s also not forget that the three-headed monster still exists in Jayron Kearse, Malik Hooker, and Donovan Wilson at safety. The Cowboys are also stacked with a fierce pass rush with Micah Parsons, the NFC defensive player of the week, and Demarcus Lawrence.

Cornerback DaRond Bland will probably start in Diggs’ place on Sunday against the Cardinals. Bland has more experience than Lewis. Lewis only had 10 snaps in his season debut before getting injured back in October, he hasn’t seen the field since the injury.

QB Dak Prescott spoke on it after practice, but still nobody knew a lot of information at that time.

“I’m not going to speak on anything,” quarterback Dak Prescott said to reporters afterward. “It’s way too early. I guess some of you saw him leaving the field. Prayers. Hoping for the best, simple as that.”

Diggs teammate S Jayron Kearse went to social media after the injury was officially announced and said, “Best cornerback in the league to start this year. We gone go step for Tre, don’t think this shit gone stop at all!! Prayers for my lil brudda Tre day!”

Diggs was having a tremendous season and had a great first couple of games. On eight passes thrown in his direction, he allowed two receptions for 26 yards with an interception, according to Pro Football Focus. He also broke up two passes, one of which led Bland to intercept a Week 1 pass against the New York Giants and return it for a touchdown. Quarterbacks have a league-low 1.0 rating when throwing against Diggs. The passer rating for a spiked ball is 39.6.

Since being drafted in 2020 Diggs has had 18 interceptions and tied a franchise record in 2021 with 11 in a single season. During training camp Diggs signed a five-year $97 million dollar contract. Diggs expressed after the contract was final that a lot of guys get paid and stop performing, and he told reporters that would not be him. He showed that in his first two games by playing lights out.
