Dallas Cowboys 2024 NFL Draft Preview

FRISCO, TX – It’s officially draft week here at The Star in Frisco Texas and everyone is getting excited to see who the Dallas Cowboys will select for their 24th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Cowboys have been quiet during free agency, losing more players than they have gained. There are many positions that need some work and we are going to break those down for you today. Below are the Dallas Cowboys 2024 NFL Draft Picks:

Round 1 : No. 24
Round 2 : No. 56
Round 3 : No. 87
Round 5 : No. 173
Round 6 : No. 216
Round 7 : No. 233
Round 7 : No. 244

The Cowboys traded their fourth round pick in the transaction they did during the season for San Francisco QB Trey Lance. With that there will be a bit of a wait from the third round to the fifth round before Dallas has another opportunity to snag another player.

There’s many positions that need help on this Cowboys team including: linebacker, running back, wide receiver, defensive line, offensive line, and cornerback. Here is a breakdown of each position heading into draft week.

Linebacker: The most important position that most can argue that Dallas needs help with is at linebacker. The Cowboys lost Leighton Vander Esch during free agency due to his ongoing neck injuries, he was released and then later retired from the game altogether. The Cowboys signed  vet Eric Kendricks to a one-year deal. He will help Damone Clark and Demarvion Overshown in the linebacker room because Clark and Overshown have both not played for very long, Overshown hasn’t even played a single NFL game yet due to tearing his ACL last year during training camp. Kendrick’s experience will help those two guys a lot. The Cowboys are still looking to add another body to that room and here some options that you could see Dallas go with in the draft:

Edgerrin Cooper – Texas A & M

Junior Colson – University of Michigan

Payton Wilson – NC State

Running Back: Running back might be your next most important position to revamp heading into the draft. With RB1 Tony Pollard off to Tennessee in free agency signing a three-year deal with the Titans, that leaves the Cowboys with Rico Dowdle. There’s speculation that the Cowboys could see a reunion with the Cowboys very own Ezekiel Elliott. With no transactions happening yet with Elliott Dallas could be looking to add another body into their running back room and here are some great options:

Jonathon Brooks – University of Texas

Bucky Irving – Oregon

Trey Benson – Florida State University

Wide Receiver : With Michael Gallup out in free agency the Cowboys are left with CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks, and Jalen Tolbert. Most of Dallas’s offense goes through Lamb obviously but the Cowboys still need a replacement for the loss of Gallup, or can Tolbert handle that pressure? Cooks is heading into a contract year and no transactions have happened with him yet. Cooks started off slow in the beginning of the season and then really ramped things up midway through and ended up becoming a great threat for the Cowboys. Tolbert is heading into year three and showed so much more confidence this past year than he did year one. If the Cowboys decide to draft a wide receiver my guess is that it will happen in the third round or later and here are some possible options that Dallas could be looking at:

Xavier Worthy – University of Texas

Xavier Legette – South Carolina

Defensive Line : Defensive line is another position Dallas has to look out for due to losing so many players in free agency. The Cowboys lost Dorance Armstrong, Donte Fowler, and Jonathon Hankins in free agency. Dallas needs to get a defensive tackle that can play alongside Mazi Smith, last year’s first round pick. Another question is can Sam Williams step up behind Micah Parsons and play that role. The Cowboys aren’t down and out completely, they still have Demarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons but the inability to stop the run has been an issue for the Cowboys the last couple years and they need a body to help them with that. Here are some standout options that the Cowboys could be looking at:

Laiatu Latu – UCLA

Jalyx Hunt – Houston Christian

The Draft will take place in Detroit Michigan and will begin Thursday, April 25th at 7 PM CST.
