Whole Lot Of Pride On The Line

FRISCO, TEXAS –The Texas Derby’s first leg is this Saturday, with Houston making its way up to Dallas.

Last year saw two draws between the sides, but this weekend, the Dynamo look to even the all-time series at 14 wins apiece.

FC Dallas needs three points to end its six-game winless streak, currently second-to-last in the Western Conference after losing 2-1 to the Colorado Rapids. The Houston Dynamo, on the other hand, who are 6th in the West, are looking to bounce back from a 1-0 home defeat to in-state rivals Austin FC.

The Copa Tejas is of course still part of the equation—since Austin FC came into the League, they’ve added this in-state series to the table alongside the Texas Derby. Five more Copa Tejas matches are still to be played, so Dallas winning it back for the first time since 2021 will have a ways to go before that gets decided.

The Dynamo have players like captain and Mexican international Héctor Herrera, who just made his season debut last time out, and a new acquisition from Nashville SC in McKinze Gaines—he’s a Texas native, so this weekend’s match is sure to hit a little closer to home for him.

Houston has seen six different goal scorers this season, have only allowed eight goals so far, tied for the least in the Conference, and has won four of its last six matches. Head Coach Nico Estévez and FC Dallas will have their hands full with Head Coach Ben Olsen, who is now in his second season for Houston.

Dallas returns to Toyota Stadium for the regular season rivalry with Houston, kicking off at 7:30 p.m.
