ARLINGTON, TX — After reaching the second round of the WNBA playoffs last season, Dallas looks to take a step further in their second season under head coach Latricia Trammell.
Over the offseason, the team added Jaelyn Brown, Ashley Owusu, Katrina Pardee, Jacy Sheldon, Stephanie Soares, and Sevgi Uzun to the training camp roster. After hearing from the Wings’ fifth overall pick, Sheldon, she expressed a lot of excitement surrounding their preseason matchup versus Indiana.
“I think for a lot of us, it is the first time playing together,” said Sheldon. “Competing against these women has been awesome and I have learned a ton as well as learning how to play off of each other. Going live will be exciting. We will learn even more about ourselves and what we need to work on.”
There is a lot of excitement surrounding the preseason matchup, mainly because the No.1 overall pick is making her way to College Park Center. Caitlin Clark, the NCAA’s record holder for the most points scored in a career by a men’s or women’s player, was one of the biggest names in women’s college basketball, and it seems her fame is translating into the WNBA.
Tonight, College Park Center will host a sold-out crowd for the preseason action. Sheldon says it’s amazing to have such support early in the season.
“It is good to have that attention. Now we have to with stay it the whole year, and feed off of it,” said Sheldon. “I know Dallas has amazing fans and I am excited for that. But also keeping our composure and staying together will be our focus.”
Sheldon competed against Clark in the Big 10. Drawing from her experience facing Clark, Sheldon emphasized to her team that competitors thrive on competition.
“Anytime you get the opportunity to play someone like her (Caitlin Clark) it is exciting,” said Sheldon. “We will be ready for it. They have a great team over there and so do we. I think our first time competing, both of us, will be exciting.”
There is much to anticipate this upcoming season, especially with the recent announcement that the city of Dallas has approved the WNBA team to play at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas starting in 2026. This marks the first of many steps toward the league’s expansion this season.
But until then, the Dallas Wings will continue their competitive spirit out in the CPC starting tonight. The Fever and Wings will face off tonight in Arlington, tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
