Clash In the North: Dallas Wings Meet Minnesota Lynx For The First Time This Season

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Dallas Wings will face Napheesa Collier and the Minnesota Lynx for the first time this season on Sunday evening when they travel to Minneapolis. The Wings currently hold a 3-3 record, while the Lynx stand at 5-2, with their losses coming against the Connecticut Sun and the Las Vegas Aces.

The Dallas Wings are coming off a close loss to the undefeated Connecticut Sun on Friday night, with a final score of 74-72. The Wings were led by Arike Ogunbowale, who recorded 21 points, four rebounds, and seven assists. Three other players also scored in double figures: Maddy Siegrist with 17 points, and Teaira McCowan and Kalani Brown each contributing 10 points.

With 1:20 remaining in the game, Sevgi Uzun hit a three-pointer to give Dallas a 72-69 lead. However, Alyssa Thomas quickly responded, scoring the next four points. Tyasha Harris closed out the game by hitting one of two free throws.

Minnesota’s most recent game was a dominant win over the Phoenix Mercury, with rookie Alissa Pili leading the way with 20 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Collier recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Lynx won by a 24-point margin, 95-71.

Minnesota boasts the second-ranked offense in the league, averaging 86.3 PPG, while Dallas is ranked 10th, averaging 83.7 PPG. Given these high-scoring offenses, this game is likely to be another high-scoring affair, similar to their matchups last season.

Dallas will need to emphasize defending Courtney Williams and Kayla McBride, who have been effective on the offensive end. Williams is averaging six assists per game along with 11.7 PPG, while McBride is one of their most efficient three-point shooters, averaging 3.1 per game. Collier also poses a challenge with her 2.4 steals per game, and Alanna Smith leads the team in blocks with two per game.

This will be an exciting matchup to conclude the Dallas Wings’ five-game road trip. The two teams will go head-to-head on Sunday evening, with tip-off set for 6 p.m. CT.
