Dallas’s Struggle Continues: Will Odessey Sims Be the Game Changer?

ARLINGTON, TX — The Dallas Wings, now 3-13 and ranked last in the league, hope to turn things around and get back into the win column. The Wings announced Tuesday morning that the team signed veteran guard Odyssey Sims, releasing Morgan Bertsch to make room on the roster.

Sims was signed to a salary cap hardship contract due to Maddy Siegrist’s finger injury and subsequent surgery. Sims played in 28 games for the Wings last season joining on a hardship exception back in June 7th before signing a standard rest-of-season contract in late June.

Monique Billings also joined the team on a hardship contract while Natasha Howard remains sidelined with an injury. It appears these two won’t be going anywhere for now as Siegrist, Satou Sabally, and rookie Jaeylin Brown remain on the injured list.

The Dallas Wings are coming off a recent loss on Sunday evening to the Washington Mystics, falling 97-84. Natasha Howard led the Wings with a 19-point performance, adding six rebounds and two assists. Jacy Sheldon followed with a career-high 16 points, while Kalani Brown contributed 13 points. Arike Ogunbowale, however, had a season-low six points in the team’s loss.

The Dallas Wings are now set to face the 2024 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Champions, the Minnesota Lynx. The Lynx recently competed against the New York Liberty on Tuesday evening with a 94-89 win after a closely contested battle. Bridget Carleton led the team with 23 points, while Napheesa Collier, named the game MVP, contributed 21 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals, and one block.

Head coach Cheryl Reeve highlighted that if the Minnesota Lynx didn’t receive much media attention before, they certainly will now after beating one of the league’s most talented teams.

“We just beat a superteam. You know how hard that is to do? Because you guys love your superteams. That’s all you want to talk about, your superteams,” said Reeve. “But we just beat a superteam. Let’s talk about it.”

The Dallas Wings face a challenge as the Minnesota Lynx visit College Park Center on Thursday afternoon, carrying momentum from their Commissioner’s Cup win. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. in Arlington.
