FC Dallas Bested By FC Cincinnati, 1-0

FRISCO, TEXAS — FC Cincinnati, making its second trip down to Frisco in five years, defeated FC Dallas for the first time in just their second all-time matchup.

A starting lineup without the likes of attackers Petar Musa, who subbed into the match in the 54th minute, Jesús Ferreira, and defender Sam Junqua, but with Paul Arriola in the back four.

According to interim head coach Peter Luccin, tonight’s lineup was “based on what we have [because] we have too many injuries.”

Younger players have been given chances to step up during these times, and Luccin said he likes so many of the things he is seeing from them.

“They are going to grow with a situation like this.”

Cincinnati was without defender Miles Robinson, who was away on National Team duties.

Although it was a scoreless first half, it was not without exciting opportunities, with Dallas having a strong presence against the 2nd place team in the Eastern Conference.

But, the night’s only goal was a left-footed screamer from just inside the 18-yard box in the 47th minute, scored by FCC defender Luca Orellano. It was assisted by Gerardo Valenzuela.

Midfielder Sebastian Lletget made a run for it in the 68th minute, but his shot bounced wide off the crossbar. Assier Illarramendi’s volley was also a solid opportunity for FCD in the 71st minute, but FCC goalkeeper Roman Celentano got his hand to it. They were the best opportunities for FCD in the second half.

FCD now falls to 5-5-11 on the season, while FCC improves their away winning streak to six-straight, making them the fifth club to reach this feat in Major League Soccer history.

The Portland Timbers are next on the docket for FCD, slated for next Thursday, July 4, with kick off at 7:30 p.m.
