KANSAS CITY, KANSAS — Forward Petar Musa scored his 11th regular season goal, equalizing the match at 2-2 in the 64th minute. However, FC Dallas (6-11-5, 23 points) suffered a 3-2 defeat to Sporting Kansas City (5-13-5, 20 points) on Sunday night at Children’s Mercy Park.

FC Dallas Interim head coach Peter Luccin expressed his thoughts on the team’s performance: “With all the rotations that we did, I think we started well in the first 15 minutes. Then after that, we changed a bit in terms of our energy, our press was different, and we became passive. So that’s why they started having the ball and scored those goals.” Luccin highlighted the need for more consistency in their press without the ball during the first half and mentioned that the team created many chances in the second half but continued to concede too many goals.

The match ended with Luccin noting, “We could have won that game but at least we should have tied that game, so that’s why I’m not so happy about the result. There were good things about the game, we created good sequences and played good football but that’s not enough. We need more for Wednesday.”

The two teams are set for a quarterfinal rematch on Wednesday night in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, offering a chance for FC Dallas to redeem themselves.
