FRISCO, TEXAS — This season’s Copa Tejas is on the line between FC Dallas and Austin FC in a midweek rivalry matchup.
The fan-driven competition between the three Texas-based Major League Soccer teams in Houston Dynamo FC, Austin and Dallas is decided based on points per game (PPG). Austin currently leads the standings, with Dallas in second and Houston completely out of the running.
Dallas can only bring home the title with three points in its favor. It would be FCD’s first time winning it since 2021. But, Austin FC has a shot at claiming Copa Tejas for a third consecutive year with either a win or a draw in Frisco: a place they’ve never won at before. Dallas has been stronger at home than on the road this season, with 23 of their 26 points coming at Toyota Stadium, which may cause problems for the Verde & Black.
Austin does have another matchup with Houston on the schedule, but that game will not have any effect.
But there is more on the line than just Copa Tejas bragging rights—FCD is currently in 11th in the Western Conference, while AFC is in 10th, separated by just four points. A win for FCD closes that gap to one, while a loss would separate them by seven, and with both teams currently sitting underneath the playoff line, this one will matter just that much more.
These two sides have met each other twice so far this season: a 2-1 win for Austin in late March, and a 2-1 win for Dallas back in May.
Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
