FRISCO, TEXAS — A month-long hiatus from Major League Soccer regular season play is about to begin for the 2024 Leagues Cup.
FC Dallas will debut against an already acquainted opponent in St. Louis CITY SC this Saturday at CITYPARK, a place Dallas has yet to win at.
All 29 MLS teams and 18 LIGA MX clubs will pause their respective league seasons, starting July 26, for Leagues Cup—a Concacaf sanctioned World-Cup style tournament held between the 47 first division clubs in Canada, Mexico and the United States. It is the first two-league tournament sanctioned by the Confederation.
One champion will be crowned between the two leagues of those three countries, over a span of 77 matches in four weeks.
What’s on the line? For the top three teams, an automatic bid into Concacaf Champions Cup, with a chance to represent the Confederation at the FIFA Club World Cup. The winner of the Third Place Match will qualify for Concacaf Champions Cup; both clubs in the Leagues Cup Final will automatically qualify for Concacaf Champions Cup; and the Leagues Cup 2023 Champion qualifies directly to the Concacaf Champion Cup Round of 16.
Kickoff in America’s First Soccer Capital is at 8 p.m.
