VANCOUVER, BC — FC Dallas heads north to BC Place to take on Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Only seven games remain for Dallas, four of which are on the road.
The Whitecaps (12-8-5) are currently 5th in the Western Conference, and just beat Austin FC 1-0 on the road, making it their fifth win in their last seven league games.
FCD (9-12-6), who are currently 7 points out of the automatic playoff spots, and 3 points behind the play-in game, just dropped one at home: a 2-3 loss to the Colorado Rapids. Dallas held the lead twice, but couldn’t finish in the win column.
However, there are some positives to take from last weekend.
Midfielder Alan Velasco made his season debut after recovering from an ACL injury, which made it the first time all three Dallas Designated Players, of whom are Velasco, Jesús Ferreira and Petar Musa, played in a match together this year; it was the first time the club fielded three DPs since last season. They were each second-half substitutes, all working back from injuries.
Forward Petar Musa’s goal last weekend was his team-high 14th goal of the 2024 MLS season. He now has the title of most prolific debut season for a player in FCD history.
Due to international duty, five Whitecaps and four FCD players will miss the match; Dallas will most notably be without starting goalkeeper Maarten Paes.
The Blue and White recently signed Scottish international midfielder Stuart Armstrong, who has spent the past six seasons playing with English side Southampton FC—five of those seasons were in the Premier League.
He is only expected to see limited minutes in the night’s match.
Dallas and Vancouver last played one another back in March of this year, FCD’s fourth game into the season, resulting in a 1-3 loss on home soil.
FCD has won in Vancouver just three times in the last 15 attempts, but will they bring home a big 3 points when they desperately need it to make the playoffs?
