FRISCO, TX – The Dallas Cowboys dominated the Cleveland Browns in week one taking a 33-17 victory. Key players stood out in Dallas’s win, aiding them to a 1-0 start. All of the superstars of the week are on defense.
The Cowboys defense that DC Mike Zimmer has put together is outstanding and even better than it was last season. From the defensive line, pash rush, and secondary Dallas looked great on Sunday afternoon giving up only 17 points, sacking quarterback Deshaun Watson six times, and giving up absolutely nothing in the air.
These are the Cowboys superstars of the week:
Eric Kendricks
Kendricks was the player of the game in my opinion. He finished the day with nine tackles, three pass rushes, 100 percent pressure rate, two sacks, one interception, one reception allowed on four targets and only four yards allowed.
“I’ve put the work in. I know what kind of player I am. I know what I bring to each team that I’m a part of. If people don’t know by now, they’re gonna know that pretty soon.” Kendricks stated following the win over the Browns.
DeMarvion Overshown
Overshown was sidelined last season due to a knee injury that occurred during training camp. Sunday was his first game as a Cowboy and boy did he not disappoint. The linebacker had 11 total tackles, five solo tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, and two quarterback hits.
Following the game Overshown stated, “This is what I do. I chase down people sideline to sideline.”
He was also asked about his injury due to some players returning from an injury and it’s hard for them mentally and physically to get back into the game and Overshown said that was not a problem for him at all.
“I’ve been ready for some time now, they let me cut it loose today.” Overshown stated.
Trevon Diggs
Diggs also missed last season due to tearing his ACL in week three and was ruled out for the remainder of the year. Diggs returned to the field on Sunday for the first time in 349 days and what would make things any better? Maybe an interception? In his first game back Diggs finished with 10 targets, six receptions, 23 yards allowed, 0 touchdowns allowed, and one interception.
“That was just a little sample. … We got like 50 calls. We only ran probably like three of them.”
