DALLAS, TEXAS — Dallas Trinity FC gets its first win of the season, beating Lexington SC 6-2.
“It feels like it’s taken forever to get the first one… the first one is always the hardest to get,” acting head coach Chris Petrucelli said. “We were explosive tonight. I think we felt we were capable of scoring like this from the beginning.”
Lexington’s Kaileu Utley struck first. She took Hannah Davison on 1-v-1, cut inside and beat her, shooting it with her left past Samantha Estrada.
Dallas answered in the 33rd minute, when Allie Thornton got a head on Amber Brooks’ ball into the 18-yard box, to tie it 1-1.
Brooks got her name on the stat sheet again, this time for a goal, scored in the extra time before the half. She was assisted by Sam Meza.
LSC’s Madison Parsons leveled things in the 52nd minute.
Just four minutes later, Sarah Cox couldn’t contain Meza’s shot, and Chioma Ubogagu capitalized on the deflection to put DTFC up 3-2.
“It’s been a while since I’ve scored, so it felt great,” Ubogagu said.
What’s better than scoring one? How about scoring two. Ubogagu’s brace came in the 67th minute after ripping one with her left, right outside the box.
Another DTFC goal came in the 78th minute. Lucy Shepherd played a cross to Meza running on in the box, who one-timed it into Cox; Thornton followed it up for her second goal of the night.
What’s better than two five goals? How about a sixth! The night’s last goal doubled as the league’s first hat trick—Thornton etching her name in USL Super League history.
Thornton’s favorite goal of the night? The first, because it’s “always a weight of the shoulders,” she said.
DTFC starts its four-game road trip at Brooklyn FC on Sept. 15th, and will return home to the Cotton Bowl on Oct. 19 for an international friendly during the State Fair of Texas.
