DALLAS, TEXAS — In their first preseason game of the year, the Dallas Mavericks fell to the Memphis Grizzlies 121-116 in a tightly contested battle on Monday night. Even without key players like Luka Dončić, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, and P.J. Washington the Mavericks put up a strong fight, giving their young players a chance to shine.
One of the standout performances came from Jaden Hardy, who led the Mavericks with 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 9 assists, showcasing his shooting range by nailing five three-pointers. Hardy’s ability to both score and facilitate the offense provided a bright spot for Dallas in this first look at their preseason roster.
Center Dereck Lively II also had an impressive debut, finishing with 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Lively’s energy and presence in the paint were felt on both ends of the floor, and his contributions further solidify the Mavericks’ investment in their young core.
Guard Jazian Gortman made a strong case for a roster spot for the Mavs, scoring 19 points on 7-13 shooting. His ability to create offense, combined with his defensive hustle, was evident as he grabbed four steals. Gortman’s energy and playmaking caught the attention of the coaching staff as he showed poise and efficiency both on and off the ball.
For the Grizzlies, Brandon Clarke led with 17 points, 1 rebound, and 4 assists, helping Memphis pull away in the final moments after several lead changes throughout the game.
