Dallas Mavericks Sign Jazian Gortman to Two-Way Contract

DALLAS, TEXAS — In a move that underscores their commitment to developing young talent, the Dallas Mavericks have officially converted Jazian Gortman to a Two-Way contract. The announcement was made today, although the specific terms of the deal remain undisclosed in accordance with team policy.

Early Career and Mavericks Signing

Jazian Gortman, a promising 6-foot-2-inch, 184-pound guard, emerged from Overtime Elite, a league known for nurturing future NBA stars. The Mavericks first signed him on July 10, 2024, recognizing his potential after an impressive stint in the G League.

Preseason Performance

Gortman made significant strides during the 2024 preseason, appearing in four games and earning one start against the L.A. Clippers on October 14. In this limited action, he averaged 10.3 points per game, which placed him third on the team in scoring. His overall contributions included 1.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 steals in about 20.5 minutes of playing time.

One of the highlights of Gortman’s preseason came on October 7, when he scored a remarkable 19 points in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies. He showcased his shooting ability by hitting 7 of 13 field goal attempts and knocking down 4 of 7 from beyond the arc, demonstrating his potential as a reliable scorer.

G League Experience

Prior to his time with the Mavericks, Gortman went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft, but he didn’t let that setback deter him. He spent the 2023-24 season playing in the G League for the Wisconsin Herd and the Rip City Remix. Over 27 games—four with the Herd and 21 with the Remix—he averaged 9.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, showcasing his versatility and ability to contribute in various facets of the game.

During the Showcase Cup games with Wisconsin, Gortman maintained solid averages of 8.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists over 14 games. This experience in the G League allowed him to refine his skills and gain valuable playing time, setting the stage for his transition to the Mavericks.

Looking Ahead

With Gortman now signed to a Two-Way contract, he has the opportunity to split his time between the Mavericks and their G League affiliate, offering him the chance to develop further while contributing to the team’s success. His impressive preseason performance, combined with his G League experience, positions him as a valuable asset moving forward.

Mavericks fans can anticipate exciting moments from Gortman as he integrates into the roster. The team’s investment in his development reflects a broader strategy of cultivating homegrown talent and building a competitive squad for the future. Keep an eye on Jazian Gortman as he embarks on this promising journey in the NBA!
