WACO, Texas — TCU aimed to keep its momentum going in Big 12 play against rival Baylor in the Bluebonnet Battle, a matchup with extra significance for both fan bases. TCU fell short in a tight 37-34 contest that came down to the final seconds.
The Horned Frogs started strong, scoring first on an 8-yard reception from quarterback Josh Hoover to Jordyn Bailey. However, Baylor quickly responded with back-to-back rushing touchdowns by Bryson Washington. Just before halftime, Hoover added a 1-yard rushing touchdown, giving TCU the lead 17-13.
In the second half, TCU opened with creative play-calling, including a 6-yard touchdown pass from Savion Williams to Jack Bech. Bech, who registered two touchdowns on the day, was a key player, though TCU’s efforts fell short as Baylor secured a last-second field goal to seal the 37-34 victory.
TCU’s primary challenge was its defense against the run—a recurring issue this season. Baylor’s Washington dominated, achieving a career-high 196 rushing yards on 26 carries, including four touchdowns, two of which exceeded 35 yards. Washington, who had only surpassed 100 rushing yards twice this season, entered Saturday’s game with 380 total rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Despite the loss, TCU’s receiving corps delivered a strong performance. Williams proved his versatility, and Bech continued to be a key target for Hoover, leading the team with five catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
TCU returns to Amon G. Carter Stadium next Saturday to face another Big 12 opponent, Oklahoma State at 6:00 pm.
