FRISCO, TEXAS — Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has declared Rico Dowdle the team’s lead back as they prepare to face the 6-4 Houston Texans in Week 11.
McCarthy emphasized the importance of getting Dowdle more involved, stating, “We have to get Rico the ball. He’s the lead back.”
Dowdle has been productive this season, recording 83 rushing attempts for 374 yards (4.5 yards per carry) and two touchdowns. As a receiver, he’s added 24 receptions for 166 yards and three touchdowns, showcasing his versatility in the offense.
The Cowboys’ offense has struggled to find consistency in 2024, averaging 19.7 points per game, 315.0 total yards per game, 83.7 rushing yards per game, and 2.0 giveaways per game. The team hopes Dowdle’s expanded role will improve their rushing attack and add balance to the offense.
Facing a Texans defense allowing 109.7 rushing yards per game, Dowdle’s performance will be pivotal as Dallas aims to boost its offensive production.
