DALLAS, TEXAS — SMU capped an incredible regular season with a dominant 38-14 victory over Cal on Senior Day at Ford Stadium, setting multiple program records and milestones in the process.
Record-Breaking Attendance
The Mustangs drew 33,178 fans, helping set a Ford Stadium season attendance record of 228,563—SMU’s highest since 1983 and 10th-best all-time. This season also produced five of the top 12 crowds in stadium history and a record average attendance of 32,652, the highest since 1986.
On-Field Milestones
SMU’s 11-1 record includes a perfect 8-0 ACC campaign, making them just the sixth team to achieve this feat since the league expanded to eight games in 1992. This marks the first time SMU has gone undefeated in conference play in consecutive seasons. Under head coach Rhett Lashlee, SMU has won 17 straight conference games and boasts a 29-10 overall record, including a remarkable 26-1 mark when scoring 30+ points.
Defensive Dominance
The Mustangs’ defense was relentless, holding Cal to just 95 rushing yards and 3-for-15 on third downs. SMU recorded five sacks, with Kobe Wilson setting career highs in tackles for loss (2.5) and sacks (2). The defense also added an interception, bringing their season total to 21 takeaways.
Offensive Stars Shine
Sophomore QB Kevin Jennings passed for 225 yards and two touchdowns, while RB Brashard Smith tallied 134 all-purpose yards, including a rushing and receiving touchdown. Senior WR Key’Shawn Smith and TE Matthew Hibner also caught TD passes, and freshman RB Derrick McFall added a rushing score.
