DALLAS, TEXAS — For the first time in nearly 50 years, the Duke Blue Devils visited Dallas to face the SMU Mustangs. Despite being without head coach Jon Scheyer, Duke cruised to a 89-62 victory.
SMU looked to Wake Forest transfer Kevin Miller to lead the offense, and he delivered with 21 points. However, SMU’s offense as a whole struggled shooting, missing 14 free throws and hitting just 23 percent of three-pointers, which allowed Duke to control the game.
Duke, on the other hand, was efficient, shooting 12-of-16 from the free-throw line and over 50 percent from the field. Freshman Cooper Flagg was the standout, contributing 24 points, 3 assists, and 11 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils.
With the win, Duke extended its winning streak to eight games, while snapping SMU’s seven-game run. SMU will now travel to North Carolina to face UNC on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
