FORT WORTH, TEXAS — In a gritty showdown at Schollmaier Arena, the TCU Horned Frogs clawed their way to a 65-60 victory over the West Virginia Mountaineers, defending their home court in front of an energized crowd.
TCU (12-10) started slow, struggling to generate offensive momentum against a disciplined West Virginia (14-8) squad. The Mountaineers’ suffocating defense and sharp perimeter shooting set the tone early, forcing TCU into five turnovers within the first five minutes. Shooting just 25% from the field, the Horned Frogs found themselves in an early hole.
But as the first half progressed, TCU settled in. The Horned Frogs ramped up their defensive intensity and chipped away at the deficit, heading into halftime down just one point, 29-28.
That momentum carried into the second half. TCU’s defense tightened, holding West Virginia scoreless until the 15:44 mark. The physicality on both ends of the floor was evident, as each possession became a battle.
Leading the charge for the Horned Frogs was freshman standout Vasean Allette, who delivered a game-high 22 points. His ability to score under pressure proved crucial down the stretch, as TCU fended off multiple Mountaineer comeback attempts.
With the win, Jamie Dixon reached a milestone, improving his career record to 500-243 as a head coach. Dixon, who amassed 328 wins in 13 seasons at Pitt, has now secured 172 victories in his ninth season at TCU. He becomes the 23rd active coach to reach 500 career wins and is one of just seven active coaches to achieve all 500 at major conference programs. Having coached in the Big East, ACC, and Big 12, Dixon’s career continues to solidify his place among the most accomplished coaches in college basketball.
The Horned Frogs will look to build on this momentum as they continue Big 12 play.
