DALLAS, TEXAS — The Dallas Cowboys kicked off Women’s History Month by announcing the formation of regional High School Girls Flag Football Leagues across Texas, set to begin competitive play in Spring 2025. The initiative, supported by the Cowboys and their partners, aims to expand opportunities for girls to play flag football at the varsity level.
Cowboys Co-Owner Charlotte Jones, Quarterback Dak Prescott, and NFL Vice President of Flag Football Stephanie Kwok led the announcement at AT&T Stadium, highlighting the sport’s benefits, from physical fitness to leadership skills. The Cowboys are also advocating for the sport to be officially sanctioned by the Texas UIL.
The leagues will feature teams from over 50 high schools across districts like Dallas ISD, Arlington ISD, and Fort Worth ISD, along with programs in Austin and El Paso. Players will compete through March to May, with a championship tournament at Ford Center in Frisco.
With Nike, Bridgestone, Oakley, and other partners providing funding, equipment, and uniforms, the Cowboys’ vision is to help 2,000 female athletes gain new opportunities — including potential college scholarships — and grow the game leading up to its debut at the 2028 Olympics.
