FRISCO, TEXAS — The Dallas Cowboys have made a move to bolster their secondary, agreeing to terms with the Buffalo Bills to acquire cornerback Kaiir Elam. As part of the deal, the Cowboys will receive Elam and a 2025 sixth-round pick in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick.
Elam, a former first-round pick by the Bills in 2022, has struggled to find consistent playing time in Buffalo’s defense. Injuries and depth at the position limited his impact, but the Cowboys are betting on his upside as they continue to build a formidable defensive unit.
With Trevon Diggs recovering from injury and DaRon Bland emerging as a key playmaker, the addition of Elam provides much-needed depth and competition in the secondary. Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer will have an opportunity to develop Elam’s talent and potentially unlock the skill set that made him a high draft selection.
For the Cowboys, this trade represents a low-risk, high-reward move. They give up only a slight draft capital advantage while taking a chance on a young player with potential. If Elam can stay healthy and adjust to the Cowboys’ defensive system, he could become a valuable contributor in the upcoming season.
