SMU Advances in NIT with 73-63 Win Over Northern Iowa

DALLAS – No. 1 seed SMU secured a 73-63 victory over Northern Iowa in the first round of the NIT at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs (24-10) used a dominant second-half stretch, outscoring UNI 21-7 in the final 10 minutes to pull away.

Junior guard B.J. Edwards made history, recording four steals to set SMU’s single-season steals record (82). He also posted his first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, along with seven assists. Chuck Harris and Kario Oquendo each added 12 points, while Yohan Traore chipped in 11.

SMU controlled the boards, outrebounding UNI 44-30 and outscoring them 38-22 in the paint. The Mustangs now move on to face Oklahoma State in the second round, set for March 22 or 23 in Dallas.
