ARLINGTON, TEXAS — José Abreu delivered in the clutch, blasting a three-run homer in the ninth inning—his second of the game—to propel the Boston Red Sox to a 5-2 win over the Texas Rangers in their season opener.
Abreu got Boston on the board early with a solo shot in the second, but Texas answered with runs from Corey Seager and Adolis García. The game remained tied until Abreu’s ninth-inning blast off Rangers closer José Leclerc sealed the victory.
Boston’s bullpen held strong, with Kenley Jansen locking down the save. The teams meet again tomorrow as Texas looks to bounce back.
