ARLINGTON, TEXAS — With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Jonah Heim came through with a walk-off single to center, bringing home Josh Smith and lifting the Texas Rangers to a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. The victory extends Texas’ winning streak to five games.
Even with a league-low .192 team batting average, the Rangers boast an AL-best 8-2 record, showing they can win with pitching and clutch performances.
On deck: Nathan Eovaldi (1-0, 2.00 ERA) is set to start Monday’s road series opener against the Chicago Cubs, who will counter with left-hander Justin Steele (2-1, 6.89 ERA).
