CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — On a frigid night at Wrigley Field, Justin Steele was in complete control.
The Cubs lefty tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits with eight strikeouts in a 7-0 win over the Rangers on Monday. Steele (3-1) earned his third straight victory, cooling off a Texas team that had won five of its last six.
Michael Busch doubled and scored in the second, then added an RBI triple in the fifth to chase Nathan Eovaldi. Ian Happ drove in three, including a two-run single during a four-run sixth. Colin Rea closed it out with two scoreless innings as the Cubs notched their first shutout of the season.
Chicago has now won six of seven.
Up next: Patrick Corbin makes his Rangers debut Tuesday. Jameson Taillon (1-1, 6.97 ERA) starts for the Cubs.
