MEMPHIS, TENN. — Anthony Davis scored 40 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to save the Mavericks from a season-ending 120-106 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night.
Davis exited briefly in the fourth quarter with a right calf injury and didn’t return, halting Dallas’ momentum as Memphis locked in the West’s final playoff spot. The Grizzlies will face No. 1 Oklahoma City in a first-round series starting Sunday.
Ja Morant, returning from an ankle sprain, had 22 points and nine assists. Jaren Jackson Jr. led Memphis with 24 points, and Desmond Bane added 22. The Grizzlies jumped out early, leading by as much as 25 in the first half.
Dallas made a third-quarter push, cutting the deficit to single digits, but Memphis responded and never looked back. Zach Edey posted 15 points and 11 boards off the bench, and Scotty Pippen Jr. added 13 in a balanced Grizzlies effort.
Memphis never trailed in the game and heads into the playoffs with momentum — and Morant back in the mix.
