DENVER — The Dallas Stars don’t need to dominate the scoreboard. They just need a crack in the door — and Tyler Seguin knows how to walk through it.
Seguin buried the game-winner 5:31 into overtime Wednesday night, giving Dallas a gritty 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche in Game 3 and a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven first-round series.
It’s the second straight overtime victory for the Stars, who’ve somehow managed to take control of this series despite trailing for nearly all of it. In fact, Dallas has held a lead in regulation for just 1 minute and 2 seconds through three games.
That resilience was on full display late in regulation when the Stars killed off a four-minute double-minor for high-sticking — a momentum swing that set the stage for Seguin’s heroics.
On the other side, the Avalanche got a boost with the return of captain Gabriel Landeskog, who played his first game in over a year following knee surgery. His presence brought energy to the building and his teammates, but Colorado couldn’t find the finishing touch.
Now it’s the Stars with the series edge, heading into a pivotal Game 4 Saturday night at Ball Arena.
