SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Patrick Bailey’s pinch-hit single in the ninth lifted the San Francisco Giants past the Texas Rangers 3-2 on Saturday at Oracle Park.
San Francisco erased a two-run deficit after Willy Adames’ fifth-inning single snapped Tyler Mahle’s 20-inning scoreless streak. Heliot Ramos led off the ninth with a single off Jacob Webb (2-1) and scored when Bailey, batting for Sam Huff, lined a first-pitch changeup into short right field.
Ryan Walker (1-1) escaped a two-on, no-outs jam in the top of the ninth, fanning Josh Smith and pinch-hitter Joc Pederson to end the threat. Robbie Ray struck out eight over seven strong innings for San Francisco.
Texas scored on sacrifice flies by Jake Burger but has dropped five of its last eight. Tyler Rogers tossed a scoreless eighth for the Giants, lowering his ERA to 0.63.
Up next: Rangers RHP Jack Leiter (2-0, 0.90 ERA) faces Giants RHP Jordan Hicks (1-3, 6.59 ERA) in Sunday’s finale.
